What’s Holly Reading

Welcome to the beginning of the series that I like to call, What’s Holly Reading. I know. It’s unoriginal. It’s uninspiring. But since I’m writing two books currently, it’s about all I can handle. Deal with it.

I try to read for pleasure, but with a business that services writers, I often find myself reading their content so that I can get a handle on their voice and create emails for them that accurately reflect them and not my own preferences. But this week is special. This week, I’m reading partly for pleasure and partly for what feels often like work.

I’m a big fan of podcasts. I listen to all sorts of them, but my favourites (outside of Disney podcasts of which I have one serious favourite) are those of my fellow romance writers. This week, I’m talking about one of them and next week, I’ll move to the other fav. This week, I’m trying to finish reading Dreaming Of You, by Lisa Kleypas. It’s the book of focus for the podcast, Fated Mates.

Fated Mates Logo: A podcast with Sarah McLean and Jen Prokop

Fated Mates is a podcast that is hosted by Sarah MacLean (incredible historical romance author) and Jen Prokop (from the Jen Reads Romance blog). Its original intention was to discuss the entire Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole, but what they found was, there was just as much to talk about in their interstitial episodes (if you’re like me, you had to go look that word up). These episodes were devoted to their favourite books in various tropes and themes. So, season 2 is all about some of these books. They’re calling it, Books That Blooded them and if you’re an IAD fan, you’ll get it. If not, let’s just say they’re talking about romance novels that changed the way these ladies felt about romance.

So, this week’s inaugural episode was diving into the book, Dreaming of You, by Lisa Kleypas. I’ll admit, nearly everything these two talk about is new to me and this book was no different. I’m just starting it, so tune in next Friday to find out if I’ve finished and what I thought. I love historicals, but only done in a certain way. I need a modern feel, I need strong heroines, heroes that love strong heroines and I like some suspense. I’m thinking this book will deliver!

So, that’s what I’m reading this week. What about you? Do you love Fated Mates as much as I do? What are you reading? And do you love Derek Craven from Dreaming of You? Tell me!!!
